Hobbies/Educational Background /Friends/Philosophy

Hobbies: As a Micronesian, I am interested in fishing and hanging out with friends during weekends. Tuesdays and Sundays, it's a very great opportunity to check out the good movies at the "Pohnpei Wallace Theater." Well, Sunday is not that cheap to go there, but since there is nothing to do, watching a movie should be the only thing that can keep me awake. Sometimes I went for swim instead of watching movie. So I should say that my best hobbies while living in Pohnpei are swimming, watching movies, and going out with friends. As I was still in the Outer Islands of Yap, Eauripik, what really interest me was fishing.

Educational Background I graduated from Eauripik Elementary School in 1991 and went to Neighboring Islands Middle School (NIMS), in Falalop, Woleai, for my freshmen and sophomore year. I graduated from that middle school in 1993 and furthered on my education at the Outer Islands High School in Falalop, Ulithi. I graduated in 1995 from high school and rest for a semester flew all the way here to Pohnpei State to further my study at the College of Micronesia-FSM in Spring 1996. I graduated with my AA degree in liberal arts in 1998. I applied for the Third Year Program and they welcomed me to that program. I was in that program for a year and graduated with a certificate in teaching. Now I am in the forth year program and hopefully, I'll be graduating in fall 2000 with my BS degree in Elementary Education.

Philosophy: Since my childhood, I was wishing that someday, I should become either a pilot or a teacher. I really wants to help out future generations to live a success live in the up coming years. So now I am working toward one of goals and I know that I will become a great teacher in the future, or after college. Teaching will be a hard job for those that they don't know the teaching strategies and don't know how to handle their students. To me, I would say that I wouldn’t have that many problems because I learned a lot from my instructors and by getting information on the websites.

The girl in maroon T-shirt is Jocelynn Labushelfeg and the girl in white T-shirt is Carolina L. They are both from the outer islands of Yap residing in Pohnpei. Jocelynn is a Junior at SDA School and Carolina is a baby sitter at her brother's house. That thing in Jocelynn's hand is a branch of betel-nut, meaning they are betel-nut chewers.

Pohnpei Wallace Theater is the only theater in the state of Pohnpei. The first movie that was shown in the Pohnpei Wallace Theater was "Rush Hour," starring Chucky Chan. It was Christmas break of the year 1999, when they first opened this theater. The first and the second nights were really full. All the tickets were sold out, so I waited until the third day to watch that movie, "Rush Hour." The fee there is: $5:00 from ages 13 and above and $3:50 from the ages of 12 and below. This is for 5 O'clock and after on Monday to Sunday excluding Tuesday. Shows during the day are only $3:50 for all. On Tuesday, all the seats are sold for only $2:00 each-bargain Tuesday.

Eauripik is the smallest atoll among all the outer islands of Yap. The population is between 90-100. This island has the biggest lagoon among all the inhabited islands in Yap. It has two uninhabited islands that are located on the same reef of Eauripik.

The people there are so friendly and helpful to all the strangers and among themselves. They tend to treat everyone as their own brothers, sisters, or parents. They obeyed whatever has been set for them to do by their chief and the elders.

Their main source of sea transportation is sailing and paddling canoes. The lagoon doesn't have any channel so it is calm most of the times. The only thing that makes the lagoon rough is storm and typhoon. Sailing in the peaceful lagoon is like sailing in paradise.
